Rovers have to play Millwall again after drawing 0-0 at the Den on Saturday while Wigan pulled off a great win at Everton to book their place in the semi final.
Whelan says that if Rovers can make it to Wembley to face his Wigan side then that would be a dream, and there is even talk of him leading his side out onto the Wembley turf himself, almost 53 years since he made an appearance for Rovers in the 1960 cup final
Whelan told reporters: “The dream is there.
“All Blackburn have got to do now is get through the replay. Roberto’s asked me to lead them out at Wembley and if we get Blackburn, I may just say yes.
“I feel I’ve got unfinished business at Wembley.”
In 1960, Whelan had to be replaced before half-time after suffering a broken leg.
