Rovers were one up after just two minutes thanks to Brett Emerton’s opener.
On 18 minutes Paul Dickov added a second and that lead was halved ten minutes before the break by Bryan Hughes.
But
"I thought some of our play in the first half was as good as I have seen since I have been here," said Hughes.
"Charlton had conceded just three away goals before this game, but apart from the goal we conceded just before half-time, this was a very comfortable win for us.
"We got off to a great start and continued to play very positively after that, and apart from their goal, we were never in danger of losing this game.
"We have been playing well and getting on with our business, hoping people will give us a little bit of credit along the way.
"It doesn't come regularly when people think of Blackburn Rovers, but we deserve credit for the way we went about things in this game.
"We have maybe been paranoid about some of the press we have received in the past.
"We are in the business to try to win games and points and change people's view of us. Performances like this will do that for us."
