With newcomers David Sullivan and David Gold present at Upton Park for the first time since completing their take-over, the club used the opportunity to welcome the local boys by playing a medley of East End songs.
Bubble-making machines filled the air as fans were treated to strains of old cockney favourites such as 'Knees Up Mother Brown', 'Any Old Iron' and 'Roll Out The Barrel' as the crowd gave the new owners received a standing ovation.
Sadly, their new players could not match their entrance, with both sides stuttering to make much impact in the early stages and Blackburn Rovers finishing the stronger of the two.
The two Davids had to wait until the 33rd minute for the first real goal attempt when Alessandro Diamanti's acute-angled free-kick was punched over by Blackburn goalkeeper Paul Robinson.
Minutes later Blackburn responded with a curling corner from Morten Gamst Pedersen which forced a similar save from Robert Green.
And in the 42nd minute, Valon Behrami fouled Pedersen and the Norwegian's free kick eluded Green but struck the angle of the cross-bar and left post.
The second half began in similarly disappointing fashion and he crowd became impatient, urging Gianfranco Zola to introduce Scott Parker and Carlton Cole.
Cole, missing since November with a knee injury but back in midweek as a substitute at Portsmouth, was finally introduced, in the 58th minute, for Radoslav Kovac, while Blackburn also made a switch with Keith Andrews replacing Brett Emerton.
Soon afterwards Cole threatened to end the lethargy but a timely challenge from Christopher Samba denied the striker.
Indeed, Cole's arrival instilled an air of urgency into a side searching for their first win since Boxing Day. And, with 20 minutes remaining, Behrami was replaced by Parker, with Blackburn responding soon afterwards by introducing striker Jason Roberts.
And Blackburn were denied again when Green saved magnificently, from Olsson, before they came close to a goal. From the corner, Gael Givet's shot appeared to hit Parker's arm on the line before Cole hooked the ball clear. Appeals followed for both a penalty and an insistence that the ball had crossed the line.
With Blackburn now in control, a slip by James Tomkins offered Roberts a chance he should have taken but, instead he allowed Green to save. And in a hugely improving spectacle, a delightfully struck free-kick from Diamanti was tipped over by Robinson.
