The 28 year old has had more than his fair share of time out through injuries this season and has found it near on impossible to get established in Sam Allardyce’s first team squad.
He has already spent time on loan at Queens Park Rangers this season and a number of clubs had shown an interest in taking him again.
But West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo was the quickest off the mark to take him on loan for an initial month.
"Steven is an exciting player and I'm delighted to welcome him to the club," he said.
"We have been looking to strengthen our squad for the final push and Steven certainly fits the bill. He's a versatile player with loads of experience.
"We've had some great references about Steven, so hopefully he'll perform at the level we expect him to."
