Souness, however, is set to adopt a much more cautious approach in future to hopefully avoid a repeat of this season's struggles.
He said: "I'm reluctant to play the two wide men anymore because it leaves us far too vulnerable at times.
"That's OK when you are bossing a game and scoring plenty of goals, but when you find yourself under the cosh it's not an ideal situation."
