"I've come up against him at international level and I've been impressed with him," Hughes told the club's official website.
"It was made known to us that he may be available to come in and have a couple of days training with us and we have taken up that option.
"We are pleased that he is here, we will just have a look at him obviously and hopefully he'll enjoy the time while he is with us but it is no more than that at this stage.
"He's a left-back, he can play in the wing-back position as well, he knows the game, he has good football intelligence and has great experience with sixty-odd caps for the Ukraine and he's a good player."
