"He's a proper Scouser, he's chirpy and you couldn't knock him down with a sledgehammer.
"He's very popular in the dressing room and on the training pitch. Nothing fazes him. If he plays for England, and I'm sure he will at some point, he certainly won't let anybody down."
When asked to comment on how he will perform for England (and where he will play), Souness replied: "I don't know. He's naturally right-footed but very comfortable with either foot.
"I know England were looking for a left-sided midfielder, David could play there or he could operate on the right.
"Or if you want someone to beaver away in the middle, bring the ball out and make things happen, that's David. I'm beginning to sound like his agent, but then, I know what he's capable of.
"With my Liverpool connections, I've been aware of David for a long time now. He's played at Premier League level before, been away years and come back. Now he's a couple of years older and wiser," he continued...
