Former Manchester United striker Cole will have to sit out Blackburn's next three games, starting with the trip to Leeds on Sunday, following his sending off at Bolton a fortnight ago for stamping on defender Mike Whitlow.
Souness admits that the loss of Cole at such a crucial stage of the season is a blow for his side, but he believes that Yordi, a recent arrival from Real Zaragoza, is capable of forming a goalscoring partnership with Matt Jansen over the next three games.
He said: "Matt isn't the easiest player to play with and it has been difficult finding a partner for him at times. Fortunately, he has hit it off with Andy, but we are without his services for three games now.
"Yordi should be easy to work with, however, because he is very straightforward and uncomplicated in his approach to the game.
"He isn't quite fit yet, but he is getting games and he will soon find his sharpness. Yordi is in the same boat as Hakan Unsal in that they have missed a lot of football before signing for us.
"It's not ideal to be catching up at this stage of the season, but they have both played a handful of games now and their fitness is getting better."
Souness is also without Craig Short for the trip to Elland Road as the defender completes his five-game. However, midfielder David Dunn and has shaken off a knee knock and will play against David O'Leary's men.
