Graeme Souness is said to be "an unhappy man" after Rovers 2-1 defeat to Spurs.
Talking to an official source, Souness said: "Football can be cruel, and I think it was cruel to us today.
"First half we were not at the races, we expected somesort of reaction from our midweek jaunt.
"Second half we were a different team, we carried the game to them, we were better than them, could have won the game.
"At 1-1 we were thinking we had certainly done enough to get something out of the game, but a fluke goal from them in the second half has won it for them, so good luck to them."
After half-time, Souness had a change of plan. Henning Berg and Andy Cole were replaced with Keith Gillespie and Egil Ostenstad in a bid to improve the situation.
Talking about the second half decision, he said: "Andy was carrying a knock, he wasn't at the races in the first half, he was not quite right physically, Henning we took off because he had been booked and because we had to chase the game."
"We had to have a go, and we did have a go, and I think the supporters can go home tonight happy knowing that their team had a go for them in the second half.
"We did have a hard trip in midweek and we don't carry the numbers to have a go in both competitions, when you are playing on a Thursday night and then you have four hours of travel, there is bound to be a reaction.
"But saying that, in the second half we did enough to win the game, and on another day we would win the game with that kind of effort and that kind of play," he continued.
Speaking frankly about the situation, we all have "bad days at the office" apparently.
