It's a fair to be worried about what they will do next, although they would be hard pushed to get it as wrong as they did the last time a manager was appointed.
Shebby Singh and Derek Shaw are the two men in charge of installing that new man and according to the Lancashire Telegraph, Eric Black, the club's current caretaker manager, Alan Shearer and Garry Flitcroft are expected to be on the list.
It seems the Sherwood idea was just all talk with Tottenham not wanting to let him go and the man himself distancing himself from all speculation.
As for Black, he told the newspaper: "I haven't even thought about it. I haven't even reflected on it.
"We will see what the owners decide. The games come fast and thick. I haven't even thought about it, it has been a bit of a whirlwind.
"The owners will decide where the club goes and I am sure they will make the right decision."
