The imposing centre-half, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham, missed the 4-1 friendly win over Kilmarnock on Saturday and is set to have a scan to determine the extent of the damage.
Kean told the club website: "Chris has a niggling groin injury and I think it'll have to be looked at. We'll get a full scan on that early this week as it keeps recurring which is a bit disappointing."
He added: "We are always hopeful because we have got a fantastic medical team. Dave Fevre and the lads in the medical room, if they can't get him fit then it is because he is nowhere near.
"If he is touch and go then I am sure he will be out there."
