The offer was in the region of £3million - a cut price proposal after ex-Rovers manager Graeme Souness signed the midfielder from Rangers for £8million only 18 months ago. The offer was immediately rejected by Rovers Chief Executive John Williams who said, "The offer has been rejected by myself and the other members of the Blackburn Rovers board. We have informed Glasgow Rangers that Barry is not for sale."
However, Rangers are set to return with a bid for the Scotland International with an expected increase up to £5million. This bid is unlikely to tempt Rovers, although if it becomes apparent that Ferguson does want to move away from the club, a bid from Graeme Souness at Newcastle United would be possible.
