Martin Olsson's low first-half strike, just reward for a display in which he ran David Wheater ragged, sealed a win that could and should have been more comfortable - although Bolton might have gone in front earlier with Rodrigo Moreno's snap-shot coming back off a post.
Rovers came into the game just a point above the bottom three, but they started brightly and almost went in front in the 15th minute when Olsson beat Wheater on his outside in the area, but his shot was blocked on the line by Paul Robinson.
The woodwork came to Blackburn's rescue a few moments later, though, when Michel Salgado's misdirected header fell to the feet of Moreno, whose snap-shot came back off the near post.
It was Olsson who scored in the 22nd minute. He picked the ball up 25 yards out and, with Wheater backing off, cut inside before toe-poking the ball into the near bottom corner from just outside the area.
Benjani should have doubled Rovers' lead after the ball fell to him in the six-yard box, but he could not bring it under control and Bogdan smothered before Steven Nzonzi inexplicably headed over when unmarked after Olsson had again skipped past Wheater and crossed.
