Newcastle United today agreed a fee of £6m for the player with Birmingham City, and have allowed City to discuss personal terms.
Bellamy has been at the centre of intense transfer speculation this week after the Welshman had a massive row with his manager - ex-Rovers boss Graeme Souness. News of a fall-out between Souness and one of his better players is no surprise to Rovers fans - high profile fueds with Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke and Andy Todd spring to mind.
The row originally started when Bellamy refused to play on the right-wing for Newcastle, pointing out that he can play far better up front and thus helping his own career as well as the fortunes of the team. Souness disagreed, which persuaded Bellamy to incredibly feign injury in training. This outraged not only Souness, but also Freddy Shepherd - the Chairman and life and soul of Newcastle United Football Club.
Rovers were linked with a loan move due to the now well-reknowned Wales connection with Rovers boss Mark Hughes. However, Newcastle stated on Wednesday that they would prefer to sell the player, with Birmingham the first to react.
Bellamy is expected to become a Brummie over the weekend - lets hope the Birmingham fans give him the type of support they have offered fellow Welshman Robbie Savage over the past couple of months.
