Souness said: "It was a big win. Obviously we're delighted with the points. I thought in the first half we played some decent stuff, caused them some problems and scored two very good goals, and then in the second half I thought we were a bit nervous, which is perhaps understandable in this situation.
"It's OK having games in hand, but we still needed to win, and a draw would not have been great, so the three points were vital.
"It doesn't matter who got the goals, but I was pleased for Yordi - he is a popular player and works very hard. But I'm happy for anyone to get the goals, and with Andy Cole back now for us, that is a big bonus for us.
"This wasn't our best performance, but I'm sure our football is good enough to stay in this league. Let's see if I'm right," he continued...
