Rovers have been without the services of Murphy since the start of the month after he suffered a hamstring injury during the draw with Burnley at Turf Moor.
Boss Henning Berg confirmed: "Danny Murphy trained (on Thursday) so we'll see how he is, but he ended the training session fine so he could be on his way back."
The other old man of the midfield, David Dunn is also hoping to play a bigger part in games after a calf problem has restricted his availability of late.
Berg added: "David Dunn is coming on, he's been in light training and this is maybe the first proper week that he has had training.
"With his record in terms of injuries you have to be a little bit careful with him but it's good to have him back training with everybody full-time."
