Douglas was capped by Kerr at underage level and the Ireland boss has admitted that he has watched the player regularly over the last five years.
“He’s one of the surprising ones," Kerr told the official FAI site.
"He was one of the lesser lights at schoolboy level.
“He’s doing well and has been for a number of years. I saw him last season at Chesterfield and he was the best player on the pitch but I would say that he’s still a bit off getting into our squad.”
