And while they are not mathematically down, it’s not looking good for the boys from Ewood Park.
Manager Steve Kean does now have an outbreak of injuries excuse for not getting another win on the board, although he is now targeting seven points at a minimum from the remaining games.
I’m not one to put a downer on things but I couldn’t see them managing seven more points if they had half a season left.
After yesterday’s defeat, Kean was quick to point out that the club had injury problems before the game and have more after, and on top of that they need three points just to be able to catch up and they have played a game more than sides around them.
Hanley, Yakubu and Hoilett all picked up injuries, Hanley might not play again this season.
Kean said: "We got a combination of a few injuries that really made it difficult for us.
"Grant Hanley got a really bad ankle injury, Yakubu is touch and go whether he will be back again this season as he has tendonitis in his knee, and Junior Hoilett felt his hamstring. So it was a bad afternoon all round.
"I think Grant Hanley could be out for the season, we are hopeful on Yakubu as we pulled him off just before it really got sharp, it was a dull ache and we made a decision to get him off because we thought that was going to go.
"It was the same with Hoilett, we got him off before it ruptured.
"I would say they have a chance (of being available before the end of the season) but Grant Hanley has almost no chance."
