Kean happy with young Rovers

Ruben Rochina marked a rare start with two fine goals inside the first four minutes while young Scot David Goodwillie added a strike of his own with just eight minutes gone.

Kean said: "All the young guys out there were a glimpse of good things in the future. I see Ruben every day and I know what quality he's got."

Kean was delighted with the way his side set out to forget their Premier League woes, with Rochina bundling home after being set up by Brett Emerton.

Within a minute Rochina had made it two when he cut the ball in from a tight angle, and Goodwillie added his own with a left-foot drive from the right flank.

Kean added: "We wanted to start the game with a tempo that was good and we knew if we did it would cause them problems. We put ourselves in a comfortable position early on."

Wednesday failed to threaten until five minutes into the second half when veteran striker Clinton Morrison lashed home a left-foot shot.

Morrison's arrival ensured the Owls of a much brighter second-half performance but that cut little ice with boss Gary Megson who described the early capitulation as "shocking".

Megson added: "I think we kicked off at about 10 past eight. Our defending was shocking for the first goal and we were shell-shocked and didn't show a great deal of common sense."

Meanwhile Rovers boss Kean confirmed George John would undergo a medical on Thursday and Simon Vukcevic could feature on Saturday after confirming his work visa.
