Souness is resting several players - including Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole, Brad Friedel and Damien Duff - ready for the weekend and this has apparently given an excellent window of opportunity for Jansen to get back in the pitch following his motorcycle crash last summer.
Matt has only managed to make two substitute appearances so far this season but Souness seems ready to give him a serious chance to get back into the game.
"Matt still gets tired quite easily in training, but he will start," said Souness.
"He has had some difficult times but Matt has great enthusiasm and he is enjoying his football.
"We said at the beginning of his rehabilitation that he'd be looking at November or December before he could challenge for the first-team and that is where we're at now."
Despite resting up many of the best players, Souness insists he is taking the Worthington Cup as seriously as Rovers Premiership battle.
"I want to win the Cup again but my players have earned their rest," he said.
