However, having undergone an operation on the injury it is hoped he could play again before the season ends in May.
"It was a straightforward operation - it was just a case of setting the bone and getting him on the road to recovery," Rovers manager Mark Hughes told the club's official website. "He's obviously very down, he loves playing football. He doesn't want to be out for any significant period but he'll have to come to terms with that."
