"The value that we have got from Benni is certainly more than the £2.5million that we paid for him," said the Rovers boss.
"He's had a great season and I thought he was excellent again today.
"I thought that his movement and his willingness to get the job done for the team was first-class.
"He's been out of the team for a couple of games because I felt that he needed a break, but today he looked fresh and full of running and I'm delighted he got the two goals. That's three in a week now."
Hughes went on to admit that he was a bit twitchy when Anelka grabbed what proved to be just an 88th minute consolation goal for the home side.
"With a few minutes to go you worry that the game might slip away, but in the end we got what we deserved today," he added.
"We were the better team."
