"I think it was a ball to be won, Lucas Neill made a genuine attempt to win the ball, the keeper certainly didn't have it under control and who's to say it wouldn't have broken to Shefki in any case," Hughes said after the 1-1 draw at Ewood Park.
"Paul Dickov's challenge in the first half didn't merit a free-kick and Morten nipped in to score a valid goal, from my point of view.
"Obviously we had all of the play in the second half, we totally dominated and I felt that we did enough to win the game."
