The Rovers boss saw the 1-0 win against the Leagues bottom side as a major boost in their efforts to gain European qulification this season.
"I am delighted to have got this fixture out of the way,'' he said after the game.
"There has been a feeling within the game that they would win a home game at some stage but we've come away from the North East with four wins without conceding a goal, so that's a decent return for us.
"We had to withstand some pressure towards the end of the game when we had to defend high balls into the box, but that's understandable.
"The first goal was always going to be important and I am pleased it was us who got it.
"It's important that we continue to pick up points on our travels.
"We've got some big games coming up, we've crept up on the rails and we're very much in the mix now."
