"We're pleased for Jason," Hughes said after Sunday's game at Ewood Park.
"He's come to the club and it was a big decision for him because he could have been a first-choice keeper elsewhere.
"But he wants to test himself at the top level, he has that confidence and it was a great save.
"What I say to all the guys in the squad is that if they're out of the team they have to be ready to come in and make an impact when they do get their chance. And in fairness every time I make a substitution invariably they come off for us.
"Certainly in Jason's case it was a great help for us because if we'd conceded then it could have been hard for us.
"So I'm pleased for him, he's a young man trying to make his way in the game and that will help him no end."
