The ex-Rovers and Manchester United striker Mark Hughes has ruled himself out of the running, claiming he is happy with his current role as Wales manager. Hughes told SkySports: "I doubt they (Rovers) would contact me. I haven't heard anything and I am happy as Wales manager."
Rovers caretaker boss Tony Parkes has also added that the club should not rush into appointing a new manager and hinted that John Williams and the board could be looking at a high-profile manager who is currently unemployed, which would quash any rumours of the appointment of Hughes. Parkes said earlier:
"The club should bide their time and look for the right successor to Graeme. I think both the board and the fans are looking for a big name."
Meanwhile Newcastle United skipper Alan Shearer has praised the Geordie appointment of Graeme Souness: "Souness is a manager that is a born winner - we are a club that needs to win things."
