"We were excellent in the first half, full value for the lead, but in the second half we were under the cosh for a while and Liverpool were a lot more direct," the Rovers boss said after the game at Anfield.
"You expect to come under pressure at Anfield but we coped and we restricted them to a few chances. Late on we might have even stolen the win.
"Obviously I can't say I am pleased with the Craig Bellamy goal but he's an excellent player.
"He did exceptionally well for Blackburn last year and I'm sure he'll do the same this year for Liverpool."
