Hignett, who sustained the injury while on loan at Coventry City earlier this season, says he is delighted with the rehabilitation so far.
"I can only do a bit of possession work at the moment, no real contact, but I am getting back earlier than expected and that's great news," he told the clubs official website, www.rovers.co.uk
"Things were going well at Coventry and I was enjoying my football there. But this injury has more or less killed the season for me.
"It's very frustrating, I've never been out of action for this long before."
