The American is a certainty to be in his country's World Cup squad but faces a battle with Kasey Keller to claim the number one shirt.
But after yet another stunning display in last night's goalless draw with Chelsea, Souness is adamant that his goalkeeper is one of the best in the business.
And the Ewood chief has revealed that the former Liverpool and Galatasaray man has a growing band of admirers after winning over the doubters at Blackburn.
Souness said: "He's one of the best goalkeepers in the league and I know there are other managers who think that too.
"He's knows here that people have got a very high regard for him and he's very, very popular with our supporters.
"Some of them doubted the wisdom of me signing him because we had three very good goalkeepers here already at the time but I think within three games he had shown why I was keen to bring him in with his form."
He added: "He would certainly get into the top 10 keepers in the world and I believe he should be the US keeper in the World Cup.
"He's athletic, agile, his concentration is good and he has a strong will to win. So long as he avoids serious injury he will be our keeper for a long time to come."
