Referee Andy D'Urso was at the centre of a controversial afternoon at Southampton as he awarded a farcical penalty, and then appeared to book Rovers skipper Barry Ferguson twice but failed to send off the Scottish International.
However, Ferguson has still picked up the suspension and, according to new rules, will miss the next immediate game instead of having to wait for the two week 'appeal period' that was in place previously.
Unfortunately for Rovers, this means that Ferguson will sit out Wednesday's trip to Highbury, where they face the daunting task of ending Arsenal's 42-game unbeaten run. The Gunners currently equal Nottingham Forest's record under Brian Clough, however a victory over Rovers on Wednesday will ensure a place in the history books for Arsene Wenger and his players.
Meanwhile, speculation is rife that Andy D'Urso will also be made to serve a suspension from refereeing, following his antics at the Friends Provident Stadium.
