Cole has been in red-hot form since signing from Manchester United, and his seven goals in 15 games is bound to have caught the attention of the England boss.
Cole was left out of the previous squad for the friendly clash against Holland in Amsterdam last month, but the striker is still in the Swede's thoughts.
"Sven was good enough to ring Andy up and explain why him and a couple of others hadn't been chosen," said.
"That was a private statement made by Sven to the player of what his reasons were, and that reason applied to two or three other players.
"His chances of playing for England have not been affected by moving to Blackburn, in fact it is quite the reverse.
"If you look at the forwards, his goalscoring record is as good if not better than anyone else that is currently being portrayed as a definite candidate to go to Japan and Korea."
Eriksson is due to name his squad for next Wednesday's friendly clash against Italy at Elland Road on Saturday, and Cole along with Rovers team-mate Matt Jansen will be hoping to get the call.
Despite the claims from Stretford, Cole has yet to reproduce his club form on the international arena, having scored just one goal - against Albania last year - in his 15 appearances.
