Birmingham boss Steve Bruce made a recent attempt however the ROI international has vowed to knuckle down and fight for his place.
"My main aim at the start of the season was to play regularly but since then other players have been brought in and they’ve done well," said Mahon.
"So I’m not complaining about the fact I’m a squad player, especially not when I’m in the Premier League.
"Every club has got to have a big squad to cope at this level – I’ve just got to keep plugging away and wait for the opportunity."
Mahon, celebrating his 24th birthday next month, has been hampered by injuries this season, and is currently sitting out the club’s Dubai trip due to a persistent Achilles problem.
"I was devastated to miss out on Dubai. It was hard work, but I really enjoyed it last year. The lads have been winding me up, phoning to say how much they are soaking up the sun!"
