Football.co.uk's rundown of the 20 Premier League players to watch this season continues, with Blackburn Rovers' Nikola Kalinic the next man under the spotlight.
Name: Nikola Kalinic
Age: 22
Club: Blackburn Rovers
Described by Croatia manager Slaven Bilic as "the future of Croatian football", Nikola Kalinic looks like having a bright future in the Premier League and at international level.
After joining the professional ranks of Hadjuk Split in his homeland in 2005, the 6ft 2in striker spent two seasons out on loan before returning to establish himself at his parent club.
An impressive return of 32 goals in just 59 appearances led to interest from England, with Kalinic reportedly close to joining Portsmouth last summer before eventually signing for Sam Allardyce at Blackburn Rovers.
He endured a mixed campaign at Ewood Park, struggling to find his feet at first before showing glimpses of his huge potential towards the end of the campaign.
With just two goals in 14 league starts, Kalinic was far from prolific in his debut season. But his improved form post-January, combined with five more goals in the domestic cup competitions gives Rovers fans plenty to be optimistic about.
On the international stage the 22-year-old represented Croatia at under 17, under 19 and under 21 level before making the step up to the senior side in 2008.
With height, technique and age all on his side, Kalinic has the potential to be a major player for Blackburn for many years to come.
